Davis Quadrant (aka WA 1) ; Rosewood limbs; Boxwood arms; cross brce marked: Made by Benjamin King, Newport, R.I., 171; fancy, ivory plate inlaid on uper limb marked: For Capt. James Rogers; Instrument maker: Benjamin King of Newport, RI was the son of Samuel King of Salem. He was baptized in Salem on 13 March 1707. He moved to Newport and married Mary Hagger in July, 1742. In 1759-1760, he was a member of the firm of King & Hagger. He died in 1786 and was followed in the business by his son Samuel. |
